Auburn Men’s Golf To Open NCAA Championship Play Wednesday

West Lafayette, Ind. - The No. 16 Auburn men’s golf team will play in the NCAA Championship at the par-72, 7,462-yard Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Ind., Wednesday through Saturday as the 11th seed in a field that includes 16 teams ranked in the Golfweek top-25.

Auburn sophomore Fani Chifchieva fell to the number seven-seeded Amanda McDowell of Georgia Tech in the semifinal round of the NCAA Singles Championship hosted by the University of Tulsa.

Auburn sophomore Fani Chifchieva earned her fourth win in the NCAA Individual Singles Championship Saturday at the University of Tulsa’s Michael D. Case Tennis Center. She moves up into the semifinal round of match play.

Cydney Clanton Earns First-Team All-American Honors; Named NGCA Freshman Of The Year

Auburn golfer Cydney Clanton earned First-Team All-American honors and was named National Golf Coaches Association Freshman of the Year. Clanton tied for 23rd at the NCAA Championship Friday in New Mexico, while the No. 10 Tigers tied for 12th.

he No. 10 Auburn women’s golf team concluded play at the NCAA Championship, firing 14-over 302 to tie for 12th. Freshman Cydney Clanton led the Tigers, shooting 1-under71 to finish tied for 23rd.

Kurt Hettinger Named Auburn Gymnastics Assistant Coach

Kurt Hettinger has been named assistant gymnastics coach at Auburn University, Auburn gymnastics head coach Jeff Thompson announced Friday. Hettinger comes to Auburn after serving as an assistant at Kent State for the previous five years.

Entering the second leg as part of a Coaches Middle East Tour, Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville and the remainder of the tour moved from the dry desert to the high seas Friday as the group visited sailors aboard Navy ships in the Persian Gulf.

NCAA Women’s Golf Championship Halted During Third Round

The No. 10 Auburn women’s golf team fared better during the shotgun format that was round three at the NCAA Championship at the University of New Mexico Championship Course. The Tigers fired 21-over 309 (289-315-309–913). Play was halted during the third round due to nightfall.

Kara Denby And Dan Mazzaferro Named Academic All-District

Auburn senior swimmer Kara Denby and sophomore diver Dan Mazzaferro were named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV At-Large First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday. Denby and Mazzaferro will now be one of 10 male and female athletes from District IV that will be placed on the national ballot for All-America consideration.

Four Auburn golfers, two past and two present, recently advanced to 2008 US Open sectional qualification. Current Auburn senior Patton Kizzire and former Tiger Jay Mundy tied for medalist honors, each carding a round of 66 at the Bessemer, Ala., local qualifier held the Bent Brook Golf Course May 19.

Auburn sophomore Fani Chifchieva defeated Beier Ko of Harvard in the first round of the Women’s NCAA Individual Singles Championship Wednesday.

Auburn University (AU or Auburn) is a state university located in Auburn, Alabama, USA.
