Track. Tigers Claim Eight More Automatic Qualifying Marks For NCAA Outdoor Championships

The Auburn men’s and women’s track and field teams had eight more automatic qualifying marks for the NCAA Championships during the final day of the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships Saturday. The Tigers finished the two day meet with 15 athletes (nine men, six women), automatically qualified in a total of 12 events for the NCAA meet June 10-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.

Track. Fleck, Weerts And Werskey Earn Spots At NCAA Outdoor Track And Field Championships

Three members of the Auburn track and field team, freshman Ryan Fleck and juniors Jean-Pierre Weerts and Eric Werskey, earned automatic bids to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, and nine others plus a relay advanced to Saturday’s finals during the opening day of the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships Friday. The top five finishers in each individual event and the top three relays earn automatic spots in the NCAA Championships June 10-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.

Posting an 18-5 record and advancing to her third consecutive NCAA Tournament, Auburn junior Fani Chifchieva was named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-America Team on Friday for the third time in her career.

Auburn baseball assistant coach Matt Heath resigned from the coaching staff on Wednesday, head coach John Pawlowski announced on Friday. Heath has been at Auburn for one season after following Pawlowski to Auburn from the College of Charleston.

Alex Haney was named South Region Senior-of-the-Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in a Wednesday morning release. The two-time, All-SEC First Team selection ended her senior season with a 29-7 singles record and a mark of 18-8 when paired with fellow senior Whitney Chappell in doubles action.

Senior outfielder Ben Jones has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Baseball Second Team, it was announced on Tuesday by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America. Jones, who carries a 3.84 GPA while majoring in mechanical engineering, was the only player from the Southeastern Conference to be named to any of the three University Division teams.

The run to the NCAA Championship for Auburn’s Alexey Tsyrenov and Tim Puetz ended Saturday with the pair falling 6-4, 6-2 to Tennessee’s John-Patrick Smith and Davey Sandgren in the semifinal of the NCAA Doubles Championship.
