Trailing by 15 points in the second half, the Auburn women’s basketball team (9-4) clawed back to within six points but would get no closer as the Tigers fell 66-55 in the Surf `N Slam Classic to host San Diego State (8-4). Redshirt junior Jordan Greenleaf led Auburn with 15 points and eight rebounds in the game, collecting four steals along the way.

Former Auburn football defensive lineman Jay Ratliff, a member of the Dallas Cowboys, has been named to the NFC roster as a reserve for the 2010 Pro Bowl, the National Football League announced Tuesday. It is the second consecutive year that Ratliff has been named to the Pro Bowl. Last season he was named an NFC starter.

Senior Lucas Hargrove registered his third double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds in a 77-62 Auburn victory Tuesday night at Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum. Down by six points with 3:33 left to play, the Auburn women’s basketball team went on a 10-2 run to take the lead, eventually holding on for a 51-50 win over Valparaiso in the first round of the San Diego State Surf `N Slam Tournament. The Tigers (9-3) will play host San Diego State (7-4) in the tournament championship at 9 p.m. CT, Wednesday.

Football. Auburn Continues Outback Bowl Preparations, Visits Busch Gardens

The Auburn football team conducted its second workout in Tampa Monday morning and followed with an afternoon visit to Busch Gardens theme park. Warmer temperatures and clear skies greeted the Tigers after working in cool, overcast conditions 24 hours earlier.

Auburn began its Outback Bowl week practice with a two hour session at the University of Tampa, just west of the downtown area Sunday. The Tigers worked on individual and position drills, finishing the workout with team periods against the scout team. After practice Chizik along with seniors Antonio Coleman, Andrew McCain, Walt McFadden, Chris Todd and Terrell Zachery visited St. Joseph Children’s Hospital in Tampa.

After taking a four-day break, the Auburn women’s basketball team (8-3) re-assembled Friday in san Diego in preparation for the San Diego State Surf `N Slam Tournament, Dec. 28-30. The Tigers will open the tournament at 9 p.m. CT, Monday against Horizon League member Valparaiso (3-6).

The Auburn football team officially reported for the Outback Bowl Saturday and participated in the first bowl functions of the week. The Tigers attended the Outback Steakhouse team welcome dinner followed by Team Night at the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey game.
